Hamza El-Rufai died this morning in Abuja.
The father of the deceased broke the unfortunate news on his faceboook page at about 8:00 am Tuesday morning.
The post read thus: “From Allah we came and to Him we shall return. Please join our family in praying for the repose of the soul of my son Hamza El-Rufai who died this morning in a motor accident in Abuja.”

The committee carried out its assignment between 6:45PM and 7:45PM on Sunday.

The palace of Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar has now admitted that the Sultan made a mistake by announcing the end of Ramadan based on claims by some Nigerian Muslims that they sighted the new moon of Shawwal on Saturday night.

The result of the joint moonsighting exercise undertaken by the Sultanate Moon Sighting Committee and the Nigerian National Moonsighting Committee on Sunday clearly showed that the monarch erred in the pronouncement he made on Saturday prematurely terminating the Ramadan fast in Nigeria.

The Sultan, who is also the President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs [NSCIA], commissioned the joint moonsighting investigation after his Saturday call triggered controversy, with some of the nation’s foremost clerics as well as the Secretary General of the NSCIA, Is-haq Oloyede, openly questioning his judgment.

The result of the investigation, also endorsed by the Sultan’s representatives, was unambiguous: The claim that the moon was sighted on Saturday was questionable as it was impossible for anyone to see the moon anywhere in the world at that time.

The committee carried out its assignment between 6:45PM and 7:45PM on Sunday.

The report of the joint committee, compiled by Usman Mahmud, a research officer with the National Moon Sighting Committee, reads in part:

“I write to inform you that we (the National Moon Sighting Committee) and the Sultanate Moon Sighting Committee went to the Sighting of Moon today (Sunday, July 27, 2014).“

The moon was not sighted with naked eye or with telescope and binocular. However, we used some programmes and software applications like Skymap, Stellarium and Virtual Moon to get the details of the moon.

“The details of the Moon are: Age: 19H (hour) 05M(minutes); Hour Angle/DE:04H 45M 11S(seconds)/ +12 21’11′; Distance between sun and moon: 3.5′.”

Experts say the result of the investigation suggested that the Sultan erred by declaring the end of Ramadan and beginning of Shawwal even when a new moon had not been born.

“It was a big error,” said Sheikh Abdulrazaq Ishola, a member of the Moonsighting Committee Worldwide, who himself was at the AlBayrouny Observatory in Mecca that Saturday in search of the moon. “

The (Sultan’s) announcement embarrassed Nigeria all over the world because in no other place was such ridiculous claim of sighting the moon on Saturday made.

“How can anyone claim that he saw the moon even when conjunction of the moon and the sun had just taken place? That is impossible. In any case, where should we ask people to find a moon that had not been born?”

Mr. Ishola explained that after conjunction takes place, (which he said occurred at 11:47 PM on Saturday), it usually takes about 17 hours for the moon to be sighted with a telescope and between 18 and 23 hours to be visible to the naked eye.

“What happened in Nigeria is disrespect to Islam and Muslims,” the cleric, who is also a a member of the Abu Dhabi-based Islamic Crescent Observatory Project, said. “We are in the 21st century, yet we are still living in the past in Nigeria.”

Sultan Abubakar had around midnight on Saturday announced the sighting of the new moon and therefore the end of Ramadan, making Nigeria the only country in the world which celebrated Eid on Sunday.

“The new month of Shawwal was sighted in different places within Nigeria and therefore tomorrow (Sunday) is the first day of Shawwal equivalent to 27 July 2014,” the Sultan said in an announcement aired on the Nigerian Television Authority [NTA].

But when contacted after the Sultan’s announcement, the Secretary-General of the organisation, Is-haq Oloyede, a professor of Islamic Studies, told PREMIUM TIMES he was not aware the moon had been sighted.

“I spoke to the Sultan about four times tonight (Saturday) and he did not tell me that the moon has been sighted,” Mr. Oloyede told PREMIUM TIMES. “In any case, any such claim is ridiculous and unscientific. It cannot be right.

“The National Moon-Sighting Committee has not informed us of any credible sighting of the moon. Rather, they said the moon wasn’t sighted. The new moon was only born at 11:45 P.M. tonight (Saturday) and it will take several hours for it to be sighted.

“Is our own sky different? Is our own moon manufactured in Nigeria?” he said.

Mr. Oloyede’s comment sparked controversy in Nigeria. While some Muslim faithful broke their fast following the Sultan’s announcement, others (especially in the South-West region) proceeded to fast on Sunday and only celebrated Eid-El-Fitri on Monday.

Mrs. Fatima Bankole, 34, pictured above, was battered by her husband, Alhaji Kamoru Bankole, for taking piece of fish from the pot to break her fast. The victim is first of three wives of Alhaji Kamoru, who resides in Hasan Close, Alasia, Ijanikin in Lagos State. 

According to SaharaReporters  the bruising attack happened on the 16th of July, when the third wife reported to their husband that their senior wife took fish from the soup to break her fast. The husband, according to witnesses, did not listen to her excuse before attacking her.


According to the victim, Mrs. Fatima Bankole, their husband had always physically abused her, but the incidence of July 16th was more brutal. She narrated that they had made a roster between two wives, due to the absence of the second wife who was away at the period, to cook for 15 days each. The victim said she had completed her period, and it was turn of the last wife. She said they would normally serve the husband first, followed by the children before the wives would serve themselves.

On the day she was to be attacked, Mrs. Fatima said the last wife had finished her cooking and served their husband and the children. She then went for her own meal. 

But soon after, the last wife complained to her husband that Fatima took a larger chunk of the fish in the pot. Their husband, Alhaji Kamoru Bankole, queried her, but she said that she only took a little out of it, stating that the fish was in pieces and mixed in the stew. Her explanations, however, got her in trouble with their husband. Alhaji Kamoru, she details, delivered several punches to her face. 

She said she bled for hours and was further locked up in a room for three days before she escaped. 
She said neighbors then took her to the hospital for treatment. That was the cruelest from her history of experience of assault by their husband, Mrs. Fatima said. From experiences she recounted, she recalled how her hair was pulled out of her head, which resulted in grievous head injuries. 

Meanwhile, police have now arrested the husband, following outcry and petitions by the Women Arise civil group in Lagos. He will be arraigned in court next week.

A Chinese married man found out he is female after doctors confirmed his stomach ache is actually menstrual cramp

A Chinese man who rushed to the hospital because he was experiencing stomach aches and blood in his urine was stunned  to discover that he was a woman on his period.

According to Shagalist.com,the married 44-year-old man from Zhejiang province, China, visited his local doctorwith his wife in Yongkang where he made the shocking discovery that he had, all along, in fact been a woman.

Abia State Government Uncover & Demolishes Kidnapper's Den in the State

Abia state government has discovered and demolished a building  belonging  to one Ogbuonye Ogbonna Daniel from Umuariaga Oboro, Ikwuano, due to his involvement in kidnapping exercise. The Security Adviser to Abia State Governor/State Task Force Chairman, Capt. Awa Udonsi Agwu (Rtd.), said the measure was to serve as deterrent to other kidnappers and those nursing the idea to enter the business.

Agwu said that the state government abhorred kidnapping and would stop at nothing to stamp the menace out of the state. according to him, other kidnappers who have properties in the state will have them pulled down once the government identifies such property.

You don't have to jump on him in public, but small things like taking his hand while you're walking, hugging him in line at the grocery store, or hooking your arm into his as you walk into a party, will make him feel close to you and that you're proud to be with him.

Plane Crashes in Taiwan, Killing Dozens Flight, Op erated by TransAsia Airways, Was Heading From the Southern City of Kaohsiung to the Penghu Islands

A TransAsia Airway plane carrying 58 people on board crashes outside an airport on a small Taiwanese island late Wednesday while trying to make an emergency landing in stormy weather. WSJ's Aries Poon reports on Lunch Break with Tanya Rivero. Photo: AP

TAIPEI—A TransAsia Airways 6702.TW -5.46% flight crashed on Wednesday 23rd of July 2014 while trying to make its second landing attempt in the Penghu islands off the coast of Taiwan, killing dozens of people.

The Penghu Fire Department said the death toll late Wednesday was at least 42 of the 58 people on board, and all bodies and remains had been sent to hospitals or a nearby morgue. The final death toll will be announced after the bodies have been properly identified.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated.The government said it suspected technical failure could be a factor in the crash, but bad weather may have also contributed. The fire department said 10 passengers and a local resident were sent to the hospital for burn injuries.

More than 300 rescue workers, including military personnel and local firefighters, were dispatched to the crash site.

Flight 222 was heading from the southern city of Kaohsiung to the Penghu islands, halfway between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan in the Taiwan Strait.

Transportation Minister Yeh Kuang-shih said two of the passengers are French nationals. "We believe we have found one of two black boxes," the minister added.

According to the Civil Aeronautics Administration, the aircraft was an ATR-72-500 short-haul regional airliner and had been in commission for 14 years. The flight was scheduled to take off at 4 p.m. local time but was asked to stay on the ground until 5:43 p.m. because of bad weather from tropical storm Matmo.

The aircraft was unable to land properly at Penghu's Magong Airport, the CAA said. After circling for a while, it was forced to make an emergency landing.

CAA Director-General Jean Shen said the last communication the aircraft had with the tower was at 7:06 p.m., when the pilot told the tower he would make a second landing attempt. The agency said data indicate the plane probably crashed in the village of Xixi after ascending approximately 300 feet.

TransAsia said bad weather forced the plane to make the emergency landing. Taiwan was battered by Matmo on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Company General Manager Chooi Yee-choong said the airline will do everything it can to help the victims' family members. There was to a charter flight early Thursday for family members from Kaohsiung to Magong Airport. "We will fully cooperate with the CAA and the transportation ministry with the investigation," said Mr. Chooi.

TransAsia Airways had seven accidents from 2002 to 2012, five of them involving the ATR-72, according to the website of Taiwan's Aviation Safety Council. Only the December 2002 accident resulted in the loss of life.

Based in Taipei, TransAsia Airways is smaller than Taiwanese carriers China AirlinesLtd. and Eva Airways. 2618.TW -0.67% It flies mostly domestic routes, but also has some international flights to destinations in mainland China as well as northeast and southeast Asia.

The carrier last year received approval from the CAA to set up a low-cost airline operating flights within a five-hour distance of Taiwan.

The type of aircraft that crashed on Wednesday is a "highly stable" plane able to land and take off on short runways, according to Mark Martin of Martin Consulting, an aviation advisory firm.

The Penghu islands area has seen deadly crashes before. The worst was a Boeing 747 jet operated by Taiwan's flag carrier, China Airlines, which broke apart in midair in May 2002 about 20 minutes into its journey from Taipei to Hong Kong and crashed into the sea northwest of Penghu, killing 225 people on board. Investigators said metal fatigue caused the plane to break apart.

In December 2002, a TransAsia ATR-72 cargo flight heading to Macau from Taipei crashed southwest of Penghu, killing the two crew members, on board. An investigation found that accumulation of ice around the plane's major components caused loss of control.

Penghu has for centuries been home to communities that live off fishing. In recent decades, the beaches and marine life have become tourist attractions.

30 year old man arrested for raping 2 year old girl in Ebonyi state

A 30-year old man, Mr. Inya-Okoro from Afikpo North LGA of Ebonyi State has been arrested by police for defiling a 2-year-old girl named Favour, Sunnewsonline reports 

The suspect was alleged to have committed the shameful act when the victim returned from school and was sleeping at the corridor of the house when the suspect, who also lives in the same compound allegedly pounced on her and committed the crime.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Mr. Chris Anyanwu an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), who confirmed the incident said the suspect was arrested on July 14, 2014 at the scene of the crime when the members of the family alerted the police. Continue...

He said that the girl had been taken to hospital for medical examination and treatment while the suspect would be charged to court for prosecution, lamenting high rate of rape and defilement in the state.

According to Anyanwu,

“On Monday 14^th July, 2014, one Ama Inya-Okoro, 30-year old man from Ubeyi development centre in Unwana, in Afikpo Council area, was arrested for defiling little girl, Favour. The girl has been taken to hospital for treatment by his father Mr. Ude, Ebeke. The suspect confessed to the crime and will be charged to court for prosecution.

“This is another disturbing trend, the issue of rape, defilement and sex related offences.

I don’t know why we have regular occurrence in the state. The people should not leave their children especially, female ones without close watch. Just like in this case, the girl was sleeping but nobody was there with her when the suspect took the advantage and had access to the girl. So, parents should be careful and monitor their girls and ensure that they don’t send them on errand alone to avoid such cases of rape. I urge the people to always ensure that they raise alarm whenever they see such act and report it to the nearest police station” he said.

In an interview with Crime Watch, Ama Inya-Okoro admitted to have committed the crime but blamed it on evil urge for sex.
According to him,

“What happened was that I went to look for job as laborer on the fateful day but could not get any job and I returned home. As I was washing my cloth I saw the girl laying down sleeping wearing only pant, I rushed and carried her and have sex with her. It was ‘conji’ that caused it and I don’t have money to go for mature girls.”

The father of the girl Mr. Ude Ebeke that he was at the church when the incident happened. A neighour called to inform me home and I rushed home to found my two years old girl was defiled by a nieghour, Ama Okoro.

“On Monday July14, 2014, I was in the church when a woman came and called me and told me to go home, I quickly rushed to my house, I didn’t see anybody, I ran to our village square and  saw group of people there gathered. It was there I saw my daughter and one of the leaders of age grade who first arrested the man and brought him to the village square.

“It was there that I was told that one Ama Inya Okoro raped and defiled by two year-old girl. So, I wanted to call police but they told me that they had already contacted police and as I was there police came and took all of us including the suspect to the police station where I made a statement. The mother traveled that day and the girl went to school before I left home. My sister will tell more on what happened because I was in the church,” he said.

The person who was with the girl when the incident happened, Miss Stella Egwu said that she was cooking in the kitchen while the victim was sleeping at the corridor when a woman alerted her.

“I was in my place cooking when the little girl came back from school and after some time she went and slept at the corridor. As I was cooking in the kitchen I heard voice calling us to come and see the man that was raping the little girl, I came out and saw the man standing with the girl, sperm in her private. As we were talking people gathered and took the suspect to the village square where they called police” she explained.
