Airliner Goes Missing After Pilots Request Course Change

An AirAsia Airbus A320-200 has gone missing on a flight from Surabaya, Indonesia, to Singapore, shortly after the pilots requested to change the flightplan because of weather, the airline said today.

Flight QZ8501, which reportedly had 162 people on board, lost contact at 7:24 a.m. Sunday local time near Belitung Island, Indonesia, according to a statement from AirAsia. It was scheduled to land in Singapore at 8:30 a.m. local time. Sixteen children and one infant were among the passengers. At a press conference this morning, Indonesian officials said the plane was several hours past the time when its fuel would have been exhausted.

The six-year-old aircraft was on the submitted flight plan but requested a deviation because of enroute weather before communication with the aircraft was lost. The plane was under the control of the Indonesian Air Traffic Control and had been in the air for about 42 minutes when contact was lost, AirAsia said.

The Indonesia air transportation director said the plane requested to increase altitude to 38,000 feet from 32,000 feet to "avoid clouds." Thunderstorms were reported in the area with clouds up to 50,000 feet, Indonesian officials said.

According to flight tracking website Flightradar24, the jet was flying at the regular cruising altitude for most jetliners -- 32,000 feet -- when the signal was lost.

"At the present time we unfortunately have no further information regarding the status of the passengers and crew members on board, but we will keep all parties informed as more information becomes available," AirAsia said.

The captain in command had a total of 6,100 flying hours and the first officer a total of 2,275 flying hours, according to the airline. The aircraft had undergone its last scheduled maintenance on November 16, 2014.

The flight manifest for the Airbus A320-200, with the registration number PK-AXC, released by the Indonesian authorities said there were 155 passengers on board, including one infant and 16 children.

Of the passengers, 156 were Indonesians, three were South Korean, and there was one traveler each from Malaysia and Singapore and France according to AirAsia.

Search and rescue operations were in progress, AirAsia said.

The plane lost communication with Indonesia's Surabaya airport when it was believed to be over the Java Sea between Kalimantan and Java islands, Hadi Mustofa, an official of the transportation ministry told Indonesia's MetroTV.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore said it was informed about the missing plane by Jakarta ground control about half an hour after contact was lost.

The Singapore air force and the navy also were activated with two C-130 ready to assist Indonesia authorities in the search, according to the aviation authority.

"We remain ready to provide any assistance to support the search and rescue effort," the CAAS said.

A waiting area was set up at Changi Airport in Singapore, where the plane had been scheduled to land, with facilities and support for relatives and friends of the passengers on the plane. At Surabaya airport, dozens of relatives sat in a room, many of them talking on mobile phones and crying. Some looked dazed, the Associated Press reported.

The White House said President Obama was briefed on the flight.

This caps a terrible year for Malaysia and air travel.

AirAsia is Malaysian-based, and in March, Malaysia Airlines flight 370, a wide-bodied Boeing 777 with 239 people on board, went missing soon after taking off from Kuala Lumpur for Beijing. It has never been found.

Then in July, another Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777 was shot down over Ukraine, killing all 298 on board.

"Jonathan Plotting To Block Me From Emerging Buhari’s Running Mate" - Tinubu

Bola Tinubu

A national leader of the All Progressives Congress [APC], Bola Tinubu, has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of mounting a campaign to block him from picking the vice presidential ticket of the party.

He said the president and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP], were afraid that the combination of a former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, and himself as the APC presidential and vice presidential candidates, could wreck them in the February 14 election.

He was responding to an article published in a popular online medium, Sahara Reporterstitled, “How Jonathan Blackmailed Bola Tinubu before 2011 Presidential Election: Season of Wrong knives.”

The former Lagos governor is accusing the President of being behind the report even thoughSahara Reporters  is not known to be a fan or mouth piece of Mr. Jonathan.

Mr. Tinubu, is angling to run on the same ticket in the presidential election with Mr. Buhari, who was elected the APC candidate last Thursday.

However, it is believed that some of the party’s leaders are not comfortable with the combination because both are Muslims.

The statement by the Tinubu Media Office, on Tuesday, said the unfolding “smear campaign” against the former governor did not come as a surprise.

It said the campaign against Mr. Tinubu had been in the works for years since the Jonathan-led government realized that the APC leader commanded a powerful political followership.

“The successful merger and birth of the APC posed the most potent threat to the PDP and Tinubu, an architect of the merger, has become a marked man,” the statement said.

“The thought of a Buhari-Tinubu ticket confounds the PDP hierarchy and their crisis-battered president. That Tinubu might be nominated as General Buhari’s running mate also incenses the small element within the APC who joined the party not for its progressive vision but to exploit its platform to press forward their vision of themselves.

“Having failed at halting General Buhari’s bid, the PDP disinformation machine has thrown itself into overdrive trying to stymie the selection of Tinubu. Sadly, some elements within the APC – elevating their personal ambition over party and national interests — have lent themselves to this endeavour.”

The statement recalled that during the Nazi takeover of Germany, “madman” Adolf Hitler became jealous of those within his own party who showed independent thought and who would not allow themselves to be bent just so he could satisfy his megalomania.

Outraged by the situation, Mr. Hitler engineered a purge executing the lot of them., a bloody scheme that became known as the “night of the long knives.”

It said Nigerians had entered the “season of the wrong knives.”

Reeling out some of the allegations made in the campaign against Mr. Tinubu, the statement said the one on the academic qualification of the APC leader was not new.

“What is new is how desperate they have become to stir up a new controversy using an old lie,” it said.

“In the past these allegations were successfully rebutted. Recent attempt to present them as fresh allegations will not go unchallenged.”

It said the online report also claimed that Mr. Tinubu withdrew his support for the ACN in the 2011 election due to blackmail by the president.

It however noted that it was rather odd that the report coloured the former governor as the villain.

The statement argued, “If the report were true, he would be a victim. President Jonathan and his administration would be guilty of the high crime of extortion.

“This tiny consideration seemed not to dawn on the authors of this scurrilous piece; so fixated on stabbing Tinubu, they implicate their own boss in wrongdoing. So eager to please their master, Jonathan’s mindless men further ensnare him.

“If Tinubu had been scared off in 2011, it would make no sense for him to spearhead the formation of the APC against the same president.

“If the president had such control over TInubu why didn’t the president use that leverage earlier to scuttle the APC before it gained a strong position in the political space?  The story makes no logical sense.”

The statement said while the authors of the article claimed the former governor did not attend Chicago State University, they cited as their evidence, a letter from the US Consulate.

It however said a closer look at the letter suggested that Mr. Tinubu’s name was misspelt.

It said the authors likely misspelt the last name so that the name search would reveal nothing.

“This is clever but immoral; it is a wrong knife,” it said.

“Meanwhile, Tinubu has genuine documents and pictures showing him as an award-winning student at the school. Nigeria should be proud that one of its own graduated an honor student from an American university over thirty years ago when that was more of a rarity than it is today.

“Instead, his detractors want to pretend he never set foot on campus.”

The statement recounted that as late as August 2012, Mr. Tinubu visited the university and was given a special reception and a tour by the school’s president.

It argued that this would not have been done for a stranger but for a distinguished alumnus.

It said after graduation, the former governor landed jobs with two well established international companies, one the accounting firm Deloitte and Touche and the other, ExxonMobil.

It also stated that such companies investigate applicants’ academic backgrounds and that if he had not attended the school, these companies would not have hired him.

On the allegation of drug running levelled against Mr. Tinubu, the statement said it was the lowest form of calumny.

“He has never been arrested, charged or indicted for any drug-related crime,” the statement said.

“Had any such suspicion existed, the American government would not have granted him political asylum during the Abacha era. Under American law, asylum cannot attach to anyone who has broken or offended that same law.

“Moreover, Tinubu travels frequently to the states. This means he has a visa. American law prohibits visa issuance to anyone reasonably suspected of drug dealing, let along being convicted of the same.”

“If I were Tinubu, I would place a wager with the PDP. He should offer to fly to America if the PDP would also send Mr. Kashamu. Both can fly to Chicago. Then he should bet the PDP who would return to Nigeria first. We all know the answer.”

The statement said the vicious campaign against the APC leader was being run from the PDP’s basement.

It said, “They fear him. They cannot assail his competence and experience. He has been an able senator and governor. They cannot assail his commitment to democracy. He has personally sacrificed more for democracy than all the PDP hierarchy combined.

“They fear his ability to campaign, to get out the vote and to protect that vote, especially in the southwest because they know that is the pivotal region where the election will likely be won or lost.”

The statement said the authors, who it described as “assailants” were desperately trying to scuttle Mr. Tinubu’s potential candidacy.

“In that the truth offers them no solace, they resort to lies. They seek to ambush the man under cover of innuendo and untruth. But their aim is off and their knives are wrong. In the end, what they use to injure him will turn to point against them. Such is the outcome when one engages in malice.

“Thus, they seek to prevent a person who may be controversial yet he is perhaps Nigeria’s most able and versatile politician, strategist and policy maker. For perhaps the most gifted politician of his time not to seek national office is a luxury a nation in this dire circumstance can ill afford.

“In the end, governance has little to do with religion, region or rumour. It has to do with vision and competence. The wrong knives will never be able to cut that truth.”

God Bless You.

On Friday 17th of October 2014, Popular Gossip blogger Linda Ikeji posted a story where she reported that Governor Amaechi of Rivers state made insultive remarks about Nollywood artistes to their faces at the just concluded BON Awards 2014.

In her post titled “Gov Rotimi Amaechi Insults Nollywood Practitioners To Their Faces, Says They Are Products Of Circumstances’, Linda Ikeji said Governor Ameachi during his speech at the award after he gave veteran actress Liz Benson a Lifetime Achievement Award, said that people in Nollywood are products of circumstances/necessity. He said that the only reason they are in Nollywood is because they couldn’t find other jobs, that if they had, they won’t be actors. Rotimi said these actors studied sciences, law, medicine etc but because they couldn’t find jobs, they embraced Nollywood.

Continuing, she said “Governor Rotimi also put two veteran actresses on blast. He told the crowd that he gives Joke Silva and Kate Henshaw bags of money whenever they come to Rivers state. And then claimed he was the one who encouraged Kate Henshaw to go into politics.

Like that wasn’t enough, Governor Amaechi then said he went into politics for money”.

Meanwhile, BON Awards organizers have responded to Linda Ikeji’s publication describing it as pure falsehoold and malicious content.

Below is their response:
Our attention has been drawn to a report on the Linda Ikeji Blog wherein she purported that Governor Rotimi Amaechi insulted Nollywood practitioners to their faces and called them products of circumstances at the Best of Nollywood Awards which held inside the banquet hall of the Government House, Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Thursday, October 16th 2014. While we consider the report malicious, mediocre and outright falsehood on which the blogger thrives, it is expedient to however set the record straight.

At no point did Governor Amaechi insult Nollywood practitioners. Instead, he commended them for growing the industry into a multi billion naira industry without any form of institutional or government support.

Nollywood, he says, now employs hundreds of thousands of Nigerian youths who, despite their qualifications, may have remained jobless because of the unemployment challenge in Nigeria which has led to a situation whereby graduates of medicine, law and other such disciplines end up in Nollywood. At that point, popular entertainer, Okey Bakassi, interrupted the governor, saying he is an agricultural engineering graduate of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, which threw the whole hall into laughter.

The Governor then recalled that at the 40th birthday party of Kate Henshaw a while back, Basorge Tariah Jnr reminded her how they used to slap the streets in search of jobs and that it was Nollywood that rescued them. Governor Amaechi also cited the example of the banking industry which has become a dumping ground of sort for graduates of different disciplines that are not even remotely related to the banking profession.

It does not beggar rational understanding, except that the blogger may not be so conditioned, therefore, that this allusion is a thumbs up for the pioneers of Nollywood, not an insult as she inanely interpreted it. More so, at no point did the Governor say he gives Kate Henshaw money. He did, however, say that the state has contracted Mrs Joke Jacobs to turn Chinua Achebe’s political satire, A Man of the People, into a movie because of its inherent, timeless social message.

After his speech, an excited Patience Ozokwor re-invited the Governor to the stage to co-present the Movie of The Year award. We wonder if the practitioners did indeed feel insulted, the Governor would still receive a standing ovation for stating that after his term in office expires, he would devote the next couple of years to reading and research and that one of the research topics he has chosen is the dynamism and evolution of Nollywood.

It is noteworthy to mention that despite starting behind schedule, Governor Amaechi sat through the awards which lasted over three hours.

We therefore want discerning Nigerians to discountenance this ill-intentioned report as it is not only the product of warped reasoning and deliberate misinterpretation, it is most uncharitable to Governor Amaechi and demeaning to the Nollywood stars and stakeholders that were at the event.

TOPE ALABI OPENS UP: MY RELATIONSHIP WITH LATE PROPHET AJANAKU [MUST READ]

Alabi, who was rumoured to be having an affair with the prophet who happened to be her former spiritual father, said there was nothing se.xual between them both.

According to her, she had already parted ways with the late man of God before rumours of his diabolic ways came to fore.

Alabi who reportedly granted a radio interview on Faaji FM yesterday said, “There was nothing se.xual between Ajanaku and I. I was at his church for ministration and I used to contribute my tithe at his church. Before news made the rounds that he was into traditional things, I had parted ways with him 3 years before then. God revealed to me that he’s that kind of person, hence my decision.”

The woman who became very popular due to her unique voice and uplifting gospel messages also went ahead to deny rumours suggesting that she confessed being a mermaid.

“I was on a foreign musical tour when someone called and said I had released a new audio, where I confessed to being a mermaid. I didn’t believe it because I felt it was just one of those media stunts. So, I just waved the whole thing aside. It was when I got home and another pastor called me and said he just got the tape and that I was the one. I was dumbfounded. So, I asked him to please play it for me. To my greatest surprise, I actually listened to it over the phone and I just sat there. The voice was exactly my voice.

But I just can’t explain how the person did it. The only confession I have ever done and will continue to do is the gospel of Christ,” she said.

EgoSHIP or a Relationship?

Signs of an Ego Battleship Instead of a Relationship

Would you ask your poorest friend for financial advice? While they may be well intentioned, they likely don’t have the skills to make good suggestions when it comes to money. Instead, you would likely turn to higher source of reliable information, someone whose financial decisions you admire.

However, when it comes to love, we turn to our egos to make the decisions, rather than our spirits. The problem with this is that the ego doesn’t have any relationship skills. Instead, the ego tries to manipulate as a means to give and receive love. In an effort to protect ourselves, the ego resorts to: Resistance, arguing, fighting, sarcasm, put-downs, depression, withdrawal, aggression, frustration, passive-aggressiveness, revenge, disrespectful gestures, intolerance, blame, competition, distrust, resentment and self-doubt

The ego’s choices end up becoming the very obstacles to love and our relationships turn into ego battleships.

Our spirits, by contrast, utilize the relationship skills of acceptance, wisdom, intuition, forgiveness, apologizing, allowing, understanding, adjusting, compromising, creativity, serving, being discerning, moving away from, taking responsibility, learning, growing, trusting, asserting, and gratitude. Our spirits are love, capable of loving and deserving of love—naturally. No manipulation needed. These are the qualities of real relationships.

Signs the ego is at work:

1) Constant judgment, criticism, put downs and ridicule.  Believe it or not, this is the ego’s attempt at being loving. The ego thinks that the best way to love someone is to change them so, the effort to love, through the filter of the ego becomes the need for control. The problem is, however, that this need to control becomes the very obstacle to love.

2) Losing oneself. Giving up your own values, hobbies, desires and sometimes friends and family to please the other person. Believe it or not, this is the ego’s attempt to get love. Operating from the ego, we think that the way to get love is to alter ourselves into something the other person wants. The problem is that as we seek approval externally, we lose ourselves and our self-respect in the process. The farther away from our authentic selves we get, the less loved we feel. The need for approval becomes the obstacle to receiving love.

3) Flat line behavior. “Flat lining” is basically when we are at a stage of giving up and just trying not to raise the other’s wrath. We walk on eggshells, and try to disappear. Flat lining may look like depression, withdrawal or energy, intimacy or engagement.

Most of us think when these signs appear, it’s time for a new relationship. And while that may be true, there is still hope for the old one. If we do not evolve to the skills of spirit, we will likely just repeat the same behavior choices in the next relationship. Either way, new relationship or old, what is required is transcendence of the ego and a recalibration with the spirit.

A real relationship is steeped in an inner knowing of ones’ inherent value. It blooms from well-loved and maintained foundation of self-knowledge, self-respect and clear values. Finally, it has integrity, acceptance and responsibility at the core.

In any and every given moment, try this:

Stop. Take a deep breath. Drop inside and access courage, calm and gratitude. Breathe these qualities throughout your being. Then choose your next words, thoughts and actions in alignment and watch how quickly your results—and your relationships—change

What President Jonathan Said At The UN 69th General Assembly

The President of the 68th Session of the General Assembly; Heads of State and Government; The Secretary-General; Distinguished Delegates; Ladies and Gentlemen
The President of the 68th Session of the General Assembly;
Heads of State and Government;
The Secretary-General;
Distinguished Delegates;
Ladies and Gentlemen
Mr President,
1. On behalf of the Government and People of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I salute you as you preside over the 68th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. I assure you of the full support and cooperation of the Nigerian delegation.

2. I also wish to extend our commendation to the Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon, and place on record, Nigeria’s appreciation for his focused and committed leadership of the United Nations system.
3. This Session is coming at a particularly trying period when our world faces a number of critical challenges which make it imperative for us to work within the Charter of the United Nations to meaningfully address them.
4. It is therefore apt that the theme, Post 2015 Development Agenda: Setting the Stage, signposts our desire and determination to actively cooperate for the improvement of the overall welfare and well-being of the most vulnerable citizens of the member-states of our Organisation.
5. Nigeria appreciates the consultative nature of designing the Post-2015 development agenda. Earlier in the year, we supported this global outreach through inclusive consultations and surveys of a number of Nigerians who have expressed their aspirations with respect to the world they expect beyond 2015.
6. A major highlight of this process, which has increased national ownership of the agenda, is the emphasis on the eradication of poverty as the overarching principle in the formulation of the successor framework.
7. Indeed, tomorrow, we will be hosting a side event on the implementation of the MDGs, in collaboration with the UN, a number of African countries, and our development partners.
8. As I had cause to say to this Assembly last Session, 2015 is not a destination but only a milestone to a better, safer, healthier and more compassionate world. Let us therefore renew our commitment to the processes that will develop the post-MDGs framework.
Mr. President,
9. This objective is of particular resonance to us in Africa where the challenges of poverty, illiteracy, food insecurity, and climate change continue to engage the attention of the political leadership.
10. The good news however, is that in the last decade, a sustained democratization process across the continent has made significant difference in governance processes, institutions and structures. Today, we have a renascent Africa that has moved away from the era of dictatorship to a new dawn where the ideals of good governance and an emphasis on human rights and justice are beginning to drive state-society relations. This is the present reality of Africa that must replace the old prejudices and assumptions about the continent.
11. We are firm in our conviction that democracy is fundamental to achieving the requisite stability that will enable the realization of a sustainable post-2015 development agenda in Africa.
12. This emergent Africa will require the continued support and partnership of the international community. An Africa that is no longer merely a destination for aid but one that is involved in constructive, multi-sectoral exchanges on the global stage. Our continent stands ready to continue to engage the rest of the world as a partner in formulating a global development agenda that will guarantee peace, security and stability.
13. I wish to express my appreciation for Nigeria’s selection as co-Chair of the Expert Committee on Financing Sustainable Development.
14. The importance of this Committee’s assignment cannot be overstated. For the post-2015 development agenda to be realistic, it must be backed by a robust financing framework which I hope will receive the strong backing of our Organisation’s more endowed members.
Mr. President,
15. Nigeria’s commitment to sustainable peace and security propels the country to action along with member states of our sub-regional and continental organisations, whenever stability is threatened in our continent. In recent years, Africa has had its share of conflicts notably in Mali, Guinea-Bissau, Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic and Somalia.
16. It is noteworthy that African leaders, with the support of the international community, have demonstrated the capacity to work in concert and decisively in pursuit of long-term solutions in the affected States. While a lot more still needs to be done, we are convinced that progress is being made.
17. The recent Presidential elections in Mali herald a new beginning that should translate into peace and prosperity for its people and provide a stronger basis for stability within the sub-region. I congratulate President Boubacar Keita. Similarly, the political transition process in Guinea Bissau holds much promise. Among African leaders, there is a greater determination and focus on the transformation of the continent. This is the required impetus for the achievement of development objectives
that will benefit the people, and rebrand the continent even more positively.
18. Although our world has not witnessed a global war since the establishment of the United Nations, there have been several conflicts with devastating consequences and impact in virtually all regions of the world. As global citizens, we have a sacred duty to free our world of wars, rivalries, ethnic conflicts, and religious divisions. Our collective effort in our drive for a better world will continue to bind us together.
Mr. President,
19. Nigeria continues to support the efforts of the United Nations in addressing the global initiative to combat the menace of the illicit trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons. We have redoubled efforts to address this onerous challenge within our borders and across the West African sub-region.
20. In doing so, we also recognize the need for a broad-based global partnership in the on-going battle against trans-border crimes, including terrorism and acts of piracy. It is regrettable that these scourges are sustained by unfettered access by non-state actors to illicit small arms and light weapons with which they foster insecurity and instability across our continent. For us in Africa, these are the ‘weapons of mass destruction’!
21. It is therefore, in the light of our collective obligation and unceasing struggle to end this nightmare, that I congratulate Member-States on the adoption of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) in April this year. Our hope is that upon its entry into force, the ATT would herald an era of accountable trade in conventional arms which is critical to the security of nations.
22. In line with our continued commitment to this project, Nigeria has signed and ratified the Treaty. We will continue to engage other Member-States for its successful implementation.
Mr. President,
23. Terrorism constitutes a major threat to global peace and security, and undermines the capacity for sustained development. In Nigeria, the threat of terrorism in a few States in the North Eastern part of our country has proven to be a challenge to national stability. We will spare no effort in addressing this menace. We are therefore confronting it with every resource at our disposal with due regard for fundamental human rights and the rule of law.

24. Nigeria will like to place on record its appreciation to the international community for its support in this regard. The reign of terror anywhere in the world is an assault on our collective humanity. Three days ago, the stark reality of this menace was again brought to the fore by the dastardly terrorist attack in Nairobi, Kenya. We must stand together to win this war together.
Mr. President,
25. Piracy, like terrorism, is another menace that has attained worrisome proportions, especially in Africa’s coastal waters. At the bilateral and multilateral levels, Nigeria has promoted cooperation to mitigate its impact and consequences on the security and economies of the affected coastal states.
26. Indeed, in June this year, the leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and the Gulf of Guinea Commission met in Yaounde, Cameroon, and came up with practical steps to collectively confront the menace of piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. This effort will, no doubt, require reinforcement and wider support and collaborative action on the part of our international partners.
Mr. President,
27. The situation in the Middle East remains volatile. The reported use of chemical weapons in the Syrian crisis, is unacceptable. Nigeria condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the use of chemical weapons that are prohibited by International Conventions.

28. We applaud the current diplomatic efforts to avert further escalation of the crisis. We urge all parties involved to end the violence and seek a negotiated solution, including the instrumentality of the United Nations.
29. The threat which nuclear weapons pose to the survival of the human race is to be understood not just in the context of aspirational nations but also the nations already in possession of such weapons. Nuclear weapons are as unsafe in the hands of small powers as they are in the hands of the major powers. It is our collective responsibility to urge the international community to respond to the clarion call for a peaceful universe in an age of uncertainty.
30. We can attain this objective if we adopt measures and policies that will promote nuclear disarmament, protect and renew our environment, and push towards an international system that is based on trust, mutual respect and shared goals.
Mr. President,
31. I believe that I express the concern of many about the slow pace of effort and apparent lack of progress in the reform of the United Nations, especially the Security Council. We believe strongly, that the call for democratization worldwide should not be for States only, but also, for International Organizations such as the UN. That is why we call for the democratization of the Security Council.
32. This is desirable for the enthronement of justice, equity, and fairness; and also for the promotion of a sense of inclusiveness and balance in our world.
33. Our support for the United Nations Security Council in its primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security has been total and unwavering. We have, in previous membership of the Council, demonstrated both the political will and capacity to engage in key Council responsibilities. Nigeria has therefore decided to seek election for the 2014-2015 Non-Permanent Seat of the UNSC.
34. I am pleased to state that Nigeria has received the endorsement of the Economic Community of West African States and the African Union. We urge this august Assembly to endorse Nigeria’s candidature.
Mr. President,
35. Our world continues to be confronted by pressing problems and threats. No statement that will be made during this Session can exhaust the extent of these problems. The world looks to us, as leaders, to provide hope in the midst of crisis, to provide guidance through difficult socio-political divisions, and to ensure that we live in a better world.
36. We have obligations to the present generation, but we have a greater obligation to generations yet unborn who should one day inherit a world of sufficiency irrespective of the circumstances of their birth or where they reside on the globe. We must work to make that world a reality in recognition of our common heritage.
37. We must strive to eradicate poverty, hunger, disease and human misery; we must eliminate the scourge of nuclear, chemical, biological, as well as small arms and light weapons. We must dedicate ourselves to working together to address global, regional and national challenges and deliver a more peaceful, equitable and prosperous world for all. It is our duty. We must not fail.
38. I thank you.

NURTW Chairman shot dead after beating Ekiti judge with Fayose

The former chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ekiti state, Mr. Omolafe Aderiye has been shot dead.

Residents told SaharaReporters late evening that Aderiye was killed by unknown gunmen at Ijigbo area in Ado Ekiti.

Aderiye was on his way home when the gunmen numbering about four accosted and shot him at close range.

Aderiye, a staunch supporter of governor-elect, Ayodele Fayose was part of the thugs that Fayose took to court to attack a state high court judge on Thursday morning.

The alleged thugs attacked Justice John Adeyeye, beating him up and ripping his clothes for being allegedly rude to Fayose. Fayose, first slapped the judge and then ordered his thugs to beat him further.

Shot Dead: Omolafe Aderiye killed after a judge was beat up in Ekiti State

The action of Fayose and his thugs triggered some pandemonium in the court, with judicial workers and others running into safety. As a result, the sitting of the Ekiti State Governorship Election petition Tribunal could not hold.

The action of Fayose and his thugs have led to the closure of all courts in protest. In a statement signed by the Chief Registrar, Obafemi Fasanmi, the state Chief Judge, A. Daramola, ordered all state courts to remain closed until adequate security measures are in place.

“The chief judge has noted with increasing concern the spate of attacks perpetrated by political thugs and their persistent presence in the premises of the high court Ado Ekiti in the past few days”.

Africa music’s big names make AFRIMA 2014 Nominees’ List

…Mafikizolo, Davido, Amr Diab, Diamond Platnumz, Fally Ipupa, Uhuru, others make AFRIMA 2014 nominees list

…as the six-week voting process stirs fever pitch excitement

The five regions of Africa gave an impressive account of their respective music industry as the 2014 Nominees’ List of the All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, was unveiled today, September 23, 2014 during a world press conference held at Protea Hotel Leadway, Maryland Estate, Lagos, Nigeria.

Present for the AFRIMA Panel of Jurors at the unveiling event was jury member Mr. Oscar Kidjo, a seasoned music producer, representing West Africa (Benin Republic). Other attendees included African music industry personalities, heads of partner corporate organisations and music industry stakeholders.

Although popular names in the continental music industry showed up on the highly-anticipated Nominees’ List of the awards project that is rewarding excellence by budding and established music professionals as well as journalists, the nominations of a generous number of emerging African artistes in many award categories threw more excitement into the unveiling event witnessed by local and international press as well as critical stakeholders in the music industry.

Among the well-known African music names on the nominees list are: Mafikizolo (South Africa) 6 nominations, Davido (Nigeria) 6 nominations, Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania) 2 nominations, Amr Diab (Egypt) 2 nominations, Zahara (South Africa) 3 nominations, Angelique Kidjo (Benin Republic) 2 nominations, Fally Ipupa (DRC) 1 nomination, Sakordie (Ghana) 1 nomination, Tiwa Savage (Nigeria) 2 nominations, Uhuru (South Africa) 5 nominations and Mi Casa (South Africa) 4 nominations. Giving details into the criteria by which the nominees list emerged, Matlou Tsotetsi explained that the jury panel adhered strictly to the entry submission requirements while being guided by AFRIMA’s core values of FACE IT –Fairness, Authenticity, Creativity, Excellence, Integrity and Transparency. “The adjudication panel of jurors consisting of experienced names in the continental and global music industry were in Lagos in July to evaluate the submitted works. The entries which made the laid down criteria and qualified on merit were shortlisted based on their scores and this was sent to our Kenya-based auditors who then tabulated these scores. The result is what we are presenting today”, Ms. Tsotetsi stated.

While 30 of the 33 award categories will be open for voting by the public and AFRIMA Academy of Voters, Mike Dada revealed that recipients of the AFRIMA Legend Award and the Africa Entertainment/Music Journalist Award will be decided by the International Committee of AFRIMA and announced at the main awards ceremony on Sunday, November 9, 2014.

Mike Dada said further that the AFRIMA voting online platform will open on Tuesday, September 30 for the five-week voting process, while encouraging the public, fans and followers of African music to visit the AFRIMA website,   www.afrima.org , to view the nominees in the 30 categories of the award and vote for their favourite artiste (s).

For the 2014 edition, the award project opened entries on May 15 and closed the submission of entries on July 21 in the process receiving a staggering total of 2,025 works for assessment submitted by African music industry artistes, professionals and journalists.

LASTMA MESSAGE:ALTERNATIVE ROUTES TO EKO BRIDGE

The Management of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, (LASTMA) has called for support and cooperation of motorists through the remaining period of repair works on the expansion joints of the Eko Bridge by planning their journeys and importantly making use of alternative routes in order to reduce the traffic effect necessitated by the rehabilitation works on road users.

The General Manager of the agency Engr. Babatunde Edu made this call on Wednesday in his office at Oshodi. He urged motorists traveling in the evening from the Island inward to Costain to avoid the Eko bridge but advised that they could join the Third Mainland Bridge through Adeniji Adele, while Carter Bridge can be accessed through Iddo or Idumota to continue their journey home unhitched.

This move according to him is healthy, reduces travel time, as well as a guarantee on the quality of work through the repair process. The LASTMA boss stated further that LASTMA officials had been strategically positioned to guide motorists through traffic prone points since the commencement of the repair work on the 76 expansion joints of the bridge which began on August 23rd 2014 and therefore, advised road users to obey road signs, which are installed to provide directions.

OSUN: INEC FILES 242 PAGE REPLY AGAINST OMISORE!!

Maintains That The Election Was Free and Fair

The Independent National Electoral Commission has filed a 242 page reply dated the 19th day of September 2014 to the Petition filed by the failed Governorship aspirant of the PDP Otunba Iyiola Omisore .

In the reply signed by Chief Gboyega Awomolo SAN; A.B Mahmoud SAN; Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu SAN; Hassan M. Liman SAN , Ahmed Raji SAN and 17 other lawyers, they raised three preliminary objection to the petition which they hoped to argue at the Pre-hearing Conference. The preliminary objection bothers on striking out certain paragraphs of the petition filed by Iyiola Omisore and the PDP.

According to INEC, paragraphs 8,28,29,30,31,32, and 33 should be struck out on the ground that the facts pleaded therein are pre-election matters,Paragraphs 26,27,35,36,37 and 38 of the petition are imprecise and vague as the polling units affected by the alleged anomalies were not specifically mentioned or identified while paragraphs 30,34,35 and 38 are incompetent for making criminal allegations against persons who are not parties to the petition.

INEC maintained in their reply that the election conducted on the 9th August,2014 was not only free and fair, it is in substantial compliance with the electoral Act. They urge the court to dismiss the petition for lacking in merit and a waste of the precious time of the tribunal.

THEME: DEMONSTRATION OF POWER

MEMORISE: For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.
1 Corinthians 4:20

READ: 2 Corinthians 6:2

2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Judges 18-19, Proverbs 1:1-19

MESSAGE
Just before our Lord Jesus Christ left His disciples, they asked Him about the kingdom of God (Acts 1:6). That kingdom was established on this earth on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Ghost came, and the Holy Ghost has been with us ever since. Those who want to be rulers in the kingdom of God must be baptised in the Holy Ghost. This is the only condition for the demonstration of God’s power on earth. The Kingdom of God is the kingdom of power. Only those whom have power can rule in the kingdom of God. The power we are talking about here refers to the spiritual power which comes only from the Holy Spirit. As soon as you are born-again, you have access to the kingdom of God (John 3:3). However, it is one thing to have access to the kingdom and another thing to be a partaker of it. Anybody who has Christ has no excuse for being powerless, because Jesus Christ is the power of God. As a ruler in the kingdom of God, you must demonstrate power wherever you go. Paul demonstrated this power when he ministered the gospel. In 1 Corinthians 2:4 he said:
“And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:”

There is power anywhere the gospel of Jesus Christ is being preached. It is only the power of God that can bring about a positive transformation in the life of an individual. No power of government can transform. People are thrown into prison in order to reform their character, but in most cases, they return from prison worse off.
Those who are born-again know that there is something awesome about the salvation experience that cannot be explained. When Jesus Christ comes in to your life, He makes you a new creature. There is no civilian in the kingdom of God. Anyone truly in the kingdom is a soldier, and wherever you go, you are expected to preach the gospel, heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead and cast out demons. You need the power to be a carrier of God’s glory. You need the power of the Holy Spirit to perform signs and wonders. Our God is a God of signs and wonders, according to Mark 16:15-20. As soon as Jesus gave the orders, the disciples went from place to place. The Lord went with them, and miracles happened. God is no respecter of persons: what he has done for others and through others, He will do for you and through you. If you are not yet born-again, you cannot experience this power, neither can you partake of it. It is for the sons of God (John 1:12).

PRAYER POINT
Father, what you have done in demonstrating your power through others, do through me also.

Good Morning. Have a pleasant day. God Bless You.

#BREAKING: The Defence Headquarters has retracted its earlier statement confirming the rescue of the abducted Chibok girls.

#BREAKING: The Defence Headquarters has retracted its earlier statement confirming the rescue of the abducted Chibok girls.

The spokesperson for the defence headquarters, Chris Olukolade, had told PREMIUM TIMES that a yet unclear number of the girls had been freed and driven in two Toyota Hiace buses to the Maimalari Barracks, the headquarters of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri.

But less than 30 minutes after he spoke to us, Mr. Olukolade called back to say he was withdrawing his earlier statement, PremiumTimes Now Report.

He said he had been having difficulty establishing contact with his colleagues in Maiduguri and that he was no longer sure that the girls driven into the barracks were newly rescued.

What a country like Nigeria....a stupendous country with stupendous spokesperson....always unsure of dia breaking news.....mtcheeeeeew!!.....JM

Lolzz.. MD is waiting for the day that GEJ will finally solve the abduction - What an irony!. Do I need to start arguing with this people - No time for the 'Notice me' joor!3-|>:/.  @Ayo, make we just dey enjoy the movie dey go jare=)). Its glaring some of the people on this forum don't follow events. They only depend on  reports and paraga joint gists*smh*. Anyway, now that the News has been reversed, what would people like Olu(baba elepe) & Tolu say again?8-|. The worst nation on earth, governed by somebody called jonathan, abdlhakeem

Mtcheeeeeew, what kind of country is this our Nigeria? One minute, the FG & Military were jubilating over d 236 Chibok girls and minutes after another story! Mtcheeeeew
F.A

At least this brief 30mins of "good news" has shown us that there are many out there waiting for that opportunity to declare their support for GEJ (not that there's nothing wrong with that). And it also gives GEJ himself an insight into how the Country will react, rally in his favour and him becoming a "hero" if these girls are indeed rescued (not to talk of a nice prelude to a Presidential campaign flag-off for 2015). So really, GEJ and the Nigerian Military should step up on efforts to rescue the girls for real. The rewards will be massive media-wise and could well land GEJ another 4yrs. - Ayo

This country is a big joke, I think it's high time people realise this so we start relating like that...Oba

Wat a disgrace dat  BBC confirmed it wasn't chibok girls. Imagine whilst pple were already jubilating. No proper communication. Nija I hail ooooox_x ..... Lady F

I swear,The army spokesman is a serious comic relief being....I think the reversing of the Chibok school girls' release is the height of incompetence of this government. This is very shameful and embarrassing in the face of international community. In any sane society, the Army Spokesman, Chris Olukolade should resign his appointment with immediate effect or get fired. But Nigerian factor...he will even get a national award for this.....P.P

Can some one tell us the true story about the chibok girl..........Honesty

No story! Chibok Girls still very missingB
mike .E

This is the third time Olukolade is embarrassing our great country with false report, he need to resign or get fired . Am so angry with this report and it spoilt my mood. E. O. J

@Honesty e go better for life o.
What is it to believe in NIGERIA?
Government lies!
Anti Government propaganda!
All at masses expense.
DO YOU GUYZ REALY BELIEVE SOME GALS WERE MISSING? Or a game as usual!
Same Government that can cover up scandal and corruption without any iota of Shame.
Soon they will declear us failed state.
P.O

@oloyede I support you jare because I think of it,that how would such a thing happen and for the past four month now, they can not find them........ogaooooo...and I love this country more than all this thing that is happening now...may God save us
honestly

Dear forum, I believe Gen Olukolade is not a dumb head, he probably made the statement out of excitement before he was called back that he should have allowed the president to take the shine! This is the logic 1. Olukolade is a general and no idiot finds himself in that post by omission 2. Why should a bus going to kaduna (as claimed) land in the army barracks heavily guarded if the girls were going to school. 3. Between the time olukolade was informed and made the statement he could have found out the true position if the girls were not the ones being looked for? 4. Could it be a 2015 campaign stunt gone bad? 5 was it that they hired a different set of girls annd they fear people would find out. 6. Was there a balance to be paid which someone is trying to be smart? 7. Two buses couldn't have contained about 300 teenagers, could it be that BH wouldn't want to release the rest due to ransome? B.O

My view .. I just siddon dey look and I still say #bringbackourgirls

BREAKING….TWO BUS LOAD OF CHIBOK GIRLS RELEASED

Two Toyota Hiace buses ferrying girls suspected to be some of the abducted girls of Chibok Government Secondary School, Borno State, just drove into Maimalari Barracks, the headquarters of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri.

A reliable source told the Nigerian Times exclusively that the white cloured Borno Express owned buses drove straight into the barracks under heavy security guard. There has been no official confirmation of this.

Muslims in Nigeria might have observed ramadan in vain..

Muslims in Nigeira might have observed ramadan in vain as the Sultan’s Palace admits moon wasn’t sighted before Sokoto monarch called off Ramadan in Nigeria

The committee carried out its assignment between 6:45PM and 7:45PM on Sunday.

The palace of Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar has now admitted that the Sultan made a mistake by announcing the end of Ramadan based on claims by some Nigerian Muslims that they sighted the new moon of Shawwal on Saturday night.

The result of the joint moonsighting exercise undertaken by the Sultanate Moon Sighting Committee and the Nigerian National Moonsighting Committee on Sunday clearly showed that the monarch erred in the pronouncement he made on Saturday prematurely terminating the Ramadan fast in Nigeria.

The Sultan, who is also the President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs [NSCIA], commissioned the joint moonsighting investigation after his Saturday call triggered controversy, with some of the nation’s foremost clerics as well as the Secretary General of the NSCIA, Is-haq Oloyede, openly questioning his judgment.

The result of the investigation, also endorsed by the Sultan’s representatives, was unambiguous: The claim that the moon was sighted on Saturday was questionable as it was impossible for anyone to see the moon anywhere in the world at that time.

The committee carried out its assignment between 6:45PM and 7:45PM on Sunday.

The report of the joint committee, compiled by Usman Mahmud, a research officer with the National Moon Sighting Committee, reads in part:

“I write to inform you that we (the National Moon Sighting Committee) and the Sultanate Moon Sighting Committee went to the Sighting of Moon today (Sunday, July 27, 2014).“

The moon was not sighted with naked eye or with telescope and binocular. However, we used some programmes and software applications like Skymap, Stellarium and Virtual Moon to get the details of the moon.

“The details of the Moon are: Age: 19H (hour) 05M(minutes); Hour Angle/DE:04H 45M 11S(seconds)/ +12 21’11′; Distance between sun and moon: 3.5′.”

Experts say the result of the investigation suggested that the Sultan erred by declaring the end of Ramadan and beginning of Shawwal even when a new moon had not been born.

“It was a big error,” said Sheikh Abdulrazaq Ishola, a member of the Moonsighting Committee Worldwide, who himself was at the AlBayrouny Observatory in Mecca that Saturday in search of the moon. “

The (Sultan’s) announcement embarrassed Nigeria all over the world because in no other place was such ridiculous claim of sighting the moon on Saturday made.

“How can anyone claim that he saw the moon even when conjunction of the moon and the sun had just taken place? That is impossible. In any case, where should we ask people to find a moon that had not been born?”

Mr. Ishola explained that after conjunction takes place, (which he said occurred at 11:47 PM on Saturday), it usually takes about 17 hours for the moon to be sighted with a telescope and between 18 and 23 hours to be visible to the naked eye.

“What happened in Nigeria is disrespect to Islam and Muslims,” the cleric, who is also a a member of the Abu Dhabi-based Islamic Crescent Observatory Project, said. “We are in the 21st century, yet we are still living in the past in Nigeria.”

Sultan Abubakar had around midnight on Saturday announced the sighting of the new moon and therefore the end of Ramadan, making Nigeria the only country in the world which celebrated Eid on Sunday.

“The new month of Shawwal was sighted in different places within Nigeria and therefore tomorrow (Sunday) is the first day of Shawwal equivalent to 27 July 2014,” the Sultan said in an announcement aired on the Nigerian Television Authority [NTA].

But when contacted after the Sultan’s announcement, the Secretary-General of the organisation, Is-haq Oloyede, a professor of Islamic Studies, told PREMIUM TIMES he was not aware the moon had been sighted.

“I spoke to the Sultan about four times tonight (Saturday) and he did not tell me that the moon has been sighted,” Mr. Oloyede told PREMIUM TIMES. “In any case, any such claim is ridiculous and unscientific. It cannot be right.

“The National Moon-Sighting Committee has not informed us of any credible sighting of the moon. Rather, they said the moon wasn’t sighted. The new moon was only born at 11:45 P.M. tonight (Saturday) and it will take several hours for it to be sighted.

“Is our own sky different? Is our own moon manufactured in Nigeria?” he said.

Mr. Oloyede’s comment sparked controversy in Nigeria. While some Muslim faithful broke their fast following the Sultan’s announcement, others (especially in the South-West region) proceeded to fast on Sunday and only celebrated Eid-El-Fitri on Monday.

"Culled from premium news"

Tarahtalks: I wonder whats the remedy to this now...  I personally think they should start all over again lol... Mrs. Fatima Bankole, 34, pictured above, was battered by her husband, Alhaji Kamoru Bankole, for taking piece of fish from the pot to break her fast. The victim is first of three wives of Alhaji Kamoru, who resides in Hasan Close, Alasia, Ijanikin in Lagos State.

According to SaharaReporters  the bruising attack happened on the 16th of July, when the third wife reported to their husband that their senior wife took fish from the soup to break her fast. The husband, according to witnesses, did not listen to her excuse before attacking her.

According to the victim, Mrs. Fatima Bankole, their husband had always physically abused her, but the incidence of July 16th was more brutal. She narrated that they had made a roster between two wives, due to the absence of the second wife who was away at the period, to cook for 15 days each. The victim said she had completed her period, and it was turn of the last wife. She said they would normally serve the husband first, followed by the children before the wives would serve themselves.

On the day she was to be attacked, Mrs. Fatima said the last wife had finished her cooking and served their husband and the children. She then went for her own meal.

But soon after, the last wife complained to her husband that Fatima took a larger chunk of the fish in the pot. Their husband, Alhaji Kamoru Bankole, queried her, but she said that she only took a little out of it, stating that the fish was in pieces and mixed in the stew. Her explanations, however, got her in trouble with their husband. Alhaji Kamoru, she details, delivered several punches to her face.

She said she bled for hours and was further locked up in a room for three days before she escaped.
She said neighbors then took her to the hospital for treatment. That was the cruelest from her history of experience of assault by their husband, Mrs. Fatima said. From experiences she recounted, she recalled how her hair was pulled out of her head, which resulted in grievous head injuries.

Meanwhile, police have now arrested the husband, following outcry and petitions by the Women Arise civil group in Lagos. He will be arraigned in court next week.

A Chinese man who rushed to the hospital because he was experiencing stomach aches and blood in his urine was stunned  to discover that he was a woman on his period.

According to Shagalist.com,the married 44-year-old man from Zhejiang province, China, visited his local doctorwith his wife in Yongkang where he made the shocking discovery that he had, all along, in fact been a woman.

After a full examination, doctors discovered that he had a full set of female reproductive organs along with a penis - which he said had given him an active sex life with his wife of ten years.A spokesman for First People’s Hospital of Yongkang said ..
‘He was wearing men's clothes with short hair, so we didn’t think that he would be a female at the beginning’.However, Mr Chen said that he had known that something was wrong with him after he found himself constantly feeling fatigued with swollen face and legs.Even worse, he constantly found blood in his urine.
A CT scan soon revealed that he had a uterus and ovaries..Doctors said it was too late for Mr Chen to seek medical treatment for his unusual problem as it was only effective for younger people.
